July 16, 2009 — Regents Approve Fiscal Plan, Furloughs

On July 16, 2009 the UC Regents endorsed a plan proposed by UC President Mark G. Yudof to enact systemwide furloughs as one of a set of actions to offset an anticipated $813 million reduction in support from the state general fund. The board approved the plan with a 20-to-1 vote, with ex-officio Regent Lt. John Garamendi voting against it.

On July 10, 2009 UC President Mark Yudof announced the plan for furloughs/salary reductions that he will propose at the Regents meeting on July 15, 2009.

June 30, 2009 — Yudof Discusses Recommendations for Furloughs and Salary Reductions

In a June 30, 2009 update to the system-wide Budget Web site, UC President Mark Yudof solicited further comment on the budget, furlough and salary reduction options to be presented to the Regents.

In a June 17, 2009 letter to the University of California community, UC President Mark Yudof outlined the three options under review for system-wide furloughs and/or salary reductions. These cuts are in response to an anticipated funding shortfall of nearly $800 million.

April 20, 2009 — UC President Mark G. Yudof Applauds Release of $268 Million in Federal Stimulus Funds

University of California President Mark G. Yudof today applauded the release of federal stimulus money for California public schools and universities. The funds provide $268 million to UC. Because $255 million of that amount was previously taken into account in the February state budget, the federal funding reduces the UC system's current $450 million state funding shortfall by $13 million.
