July 16, 2009 — Regents Approve Fiscal Plan, Furloughs
On July 16, 2009 the UC Regents endorsed a plan proposed by UC President Mark G. Yudof to enact systemwide furloughs as one of a set of actions to offset an anticipated $813 million reduction in support from the state general fund. The board approved the plan with a 20-to-1 vote, with ex-officio Regent Lt. John Garamendi voting against it. - See the official press release.

University of California President Mark G. Yudof today applauded the release of federal stimulus money for California public schools and universities. The funds provide $268 million to UC. Because $255 million of that amount was previously taken into account in the February state budget, the federal funding reduces the UC system's current $450 million state funding shortfall by $13 million.
